In Greek mythology, Ephyra was one of the 3,000 Oceanids, water-nymph daughters of the Titans Oceanus and Tethys. Ephyra was the first to live in the land of Ephyrae, which later became known as Corinth. Her nurturing spirit as a water nymph deeply shaped how Corinth developed. Under her influence, the settlement grew around life-giving freshwater springs, building a foundation where people could thrive rather than just survive. This plentiful water allowed Corinth to grow beyond basic needs, enabling its transformation.
